How the attempt works
Fastest shot from the penalty spot
- Every shot is struck from the penalty spot, 12 yards from goal.
- The ball must cross the goal line for the attempt to stand — a fast miss does not count.
- Speed is captured by calibrated radar positioned behind the goal.
- Each player takes a set number of attempts; the fastest legal strike counts.
- Two separate official records: the Aston Villa men's squad and the Aston Villa Women squad.
Measured and verified
- Radar calibration certificate recorded before and after the attempt.
- Every attempt filmed from goal line and side-on for evidence.
- Independent witnesses present for the official squad attempts.
- Governing body, evidence pack and ratification process to be confirmed with the record body before the attempt.
The Fans
Every fan shot counts
Take a radar-measured shot at a community session and your speed joins the campaign tally. The fastest fan of the whole campaign is revealed alongside the squad attempts. Fan speeds are an unofficial community mark — they sit beside the official squad record attempt, not inside it.
